Bàscara Living Nativity 2026
The Living Nativity of Bàscara, on the Alt Empordà, is a true classic that has been celebrated uninterruptedly since 1973. With a very original format divided into a visual show in the square and a static tour on the banks of the Fluvià River, it is a must-stop. Check below for route accessibility, performance times and available discounts.
The Experience: A nativity scene in two phases
The representation of Bàscara escapes the traditional format and is divided into two clearly differentiated parts:
- The Introduction (Plaça de la Esglesia): A spectacular preamble where the audience waits. Movement, special effects, light and sound predominate there to represent scenes related to Christmas.
- The static scenes (Riu Fluvià): Once the introduction is over, the audience begins a walking tour of approx 1 km by the old town and the right bank of the river. In this phase the characters remain completely motionless, wearing period Hebrew clothing, transporting us to Palestine 2,000 years ago.
Bàscara Living Nativity Times and Dates
- Expected dates: Traditionally the season starts just before Christmas (around December 21) and lasts until the first days of January, with continued performances during the key holidays.
- Performance times: Performances always begin at 7:00 PM to take advantage of the magic and atmosphere of the night.
Tickets and discounts
You can buy tickets in advance online or at the ticket office in the square shortly before the start. For any questions, the organisation can be reached on 621 200 893 and the email info@elpessebre.cat. Check the available discounts:
- Free access: For card holders Club Super3 (SX3) and magazine subscribers Cavall Fort.
- Promotions: option of 2-for-1 with the newspaper El Punt Avui (always subject to confirmation of each edition).
How to get there and notice of accessibility
- Where to park: The town is perfectly connected by the N-II. The organization sets up a large free parking area signposted at the south entrance of the town. It is recommended to go there well in advance to avoid traffic jams.
- Attention to accessibility: The organization explicitly warns that the long route of 1 km that follows the banks of the river and the cobbled streets is not accessible. It is strongly discouraged for people with reduced mobility, wheelchairs or pushchairs.
Where to eat and services
At the end of the itinerary near the river, the organization presents visitors with a tasting of very hot Aneto soup to regain strength. If you want to take advantage of the break to enjoy the local gastronomy before or after the nativity scene (we recommend booking in advance), the centre of Bàscara offers these highly rated options:
- Bar Restaurant Fluvià: Excellent and highly rated option close to the road (Carrer de Girona, 27).
- Sala Puignau, A.: Cozy lounge type place on the same street (Carrer de Girona, 11).
- La Plaça: Ideal bar for a quick bite or some tapas in the heart of the town (Plaça Major, 11).
