Celrà Living Nativity 2026
The Celrà Living Nativity 2026 is an authentic and welcoming event held during the festive season. Free admission and easy access by public transport (R11 train) make it an excellent family outing in the Gironès. See all the practical details below.
The Experience: A living nativity scene since 1989
In 1989, Carme Martí and Pep Camps, together with a group of enthusiasts, created the first performance. Since then, the event has continued to grow. One of its defining features is the route, which changes every year as new scenes are added throughout the old town, combining period costumes with live and recorded music.
Times and dates of the Living Nativity in Celrà
- Exclusive date: The event is usually concentrated on a single very special day of celebration: the afternoon of December 26 (Saint Stephen).
- Performance times: The performances and the opening of the venue begin promptly at 19:00 h to make the most of the evening atmosphere.
- Location and Start: Since the route changes every year, the starting point usually varies (it can start from Plaça de l'Església or from Plaça Catalonia, depending on the edition). The organization signals it perfectly.

- Arriving by Train (Recommended): Celrà station (R11 Rodalies line; Barcelona–Girona–Figueres–Portbou connection) leaves you a few minutes' walk from the center.
- Arriving by Bus: Sarfa company buses from Girona, the Baix Empordà and the Costa Brava stop there.
- Arriving by Car: Easily accessible via the C-66 road. The town council usually sets up zones or diverts traffic to the outskirts to keep the historic centre peaceful.
Practical information: rain and pets
- Weather: In recent editions, the organization has been forced to issue cancellation notices due to adverse weather forecasts and winds. Always check the weather or social media on the 26th itself before you set off.
- Pets: Access policy not officially detailed. Check directly by phone if you are accompanied by dogs.
Where to eat in town
At the end of the route through the village, the organization will invite you to catch your breath with the traditional free a cup of hot soup. If you want to close the afternoon of Sant Esteve by sitting down to meal near the nativity scene (remember always reserve a table in advance), Celrà offers some interesting options within walking distance:
- Nimú (Snack Bar / Tapas): The best rated option in the center (4.9). Famous for their hamburgers and desserts, they have the added value that they accept dogs (Pet Friendly). Central location (Carrer Major, 1).
- Bar Cafeteria Centre: A classic and reliable option to have something, where people usually emphasize the close treatment (Av. de Catalonia, 12).
- Centro Cultural La Fàbrica: It is a very unique space located in an old modernist factory (Crtra. de Juià, 46).
