Guide to Living Nativity Scenes in Catalonia

2026-2027 season

Sant Jaume dels Domenys Living Nativity 2026

The Xarel·lo Living Nativity with Live Dialogue of Sant Jaume dels Domenys is one of the younger and more authentic initiatives in the region (active since 2016). It stands out because it is staged entirely in a real forest. and for being one of the few spoken nativity scenes in the territory. Here is everything you need to know before embarking on this natural experience.

The experience: A spoken nativity scene in the heart of the forest

The great attraction of this assembly is its incomparable frame: the Can Pau forest. The visitor does not walk along asphalted streets, but enters a guided route of approximately 55 minutes in the middle of nature. It is the viewer who moves from one picture to another.

Besides the setting, the big difference lies in the fact that it is a nativity scene in motion and spoken. The extras (dressed in traditional Catalan clothing) interact and recite the passages accompanied by recorded music, creating a lively atmosphere, close and full of magic.

Performance dates and times

  • Opening schedule: The performances are traditionally organized by the weekend before the Christmas holidays, coinciding with the preparations for family days.
  • Structured steps: To preserve the tranquility of the forest and ensure that everyone listen well to the spoken scenes, access is in closed groups with regular passes every hour (from 17:00 h until 20:00 h).

Tickets, prices and accessibility to the venue

Given the limited capacity of each pass, we strongly recommend the purchase of advance tickets (the physical ticket offices open only subject to availability). Fees are structured by age groups:

  • General admission (+13 years): The normal adult ticket must be purchased.
  • Children's Ticket (7 to 12 years): They have a reduced rate.
  • Under 6 years old: Full access free (it is not necessary to purchase a ticket).

Important logistics tips:

  • Footwear: The route is quite flat but it is made of natural soil. It is essential to bring very comfortable footwear and suitable for walking in the mountains.
  • Strollers: Attention families: the forest floor is unsuitable for pushchairs. The organization recommends leaving the prams at the entrance before starting the route to enjoy the route comfortably.

Gastronomy: Where to eat near Can Pau

The visit would not be complete without the classic taste of hot soup offered to enter in heat on winter evenings.

At the end of the route through the forest, or before starting the route, sitting down to have a bite to eat in the village is a great decision Sant Jaume dels Domenys offers very authentic options a few minutes away:

  • Cal Pelat Restaurant (Carrer Tarragona, 2): A spectacular bet. They stand out for offering first-class food quality, friendly service and fast and efficient service ideal for families.
  • Fonda Sport Restaurant (Carrer Prat de la Riba, 14): Perfect if you're looking for a place where traditional atmosphere and good home-cooked food go hand in hand in a classic format that never fails.
